The Last Orange

Barrett saw a lot of combat during World War II. Despite the hardships–or maybe because of them–he maintained a deep appreciation for the simple things: a hot meal or even a piece of fresh fruit. Jay was born in India, educated in England, and practiced family medicine in New Hampshire for nearly 40 years. He endured the Blitz in London during World War II and lived to tell the tale. Jay’s three children and four grandchildren love hearing stories of his adventures.

In this story, Jay tells of his school’s preparations for war in 1938.
